Well-known animal expert locates a new business in Zachary:
Former Audubon Zoo Curator/Educator Debbie Pearson has formed an animal service business combining her passion for animals and desire to assist their human "families." Expert Animal Care will provide in-home (or in barn!) care for any type of animal when the owner is away or needs skilled assistance.
For 34 years Pearson produced educational programming, rehabilitated wildlife, entertained zoo-goers and hosted a popular live morning news segment on WWL TV on New Orleans. She shared and revealed the intimate lives of exotic and everyday creatures from ants & aardvarks, and possums and pachyderms.
Married to local "animal man" and mule breeder Roy Firmin - Pearson now plans to give the same skilled husbandry to pets and livestock she once lavished on precious endangered animals. It is a perfect fit for a dyed-in-the-wool animal lover.
According to Pearson: "Roy and I have done everything from training movie animals (even roach wrangling!) to flying hawks as Master Falconers to raising Arabian show horses. We knew we had met each others' soulmates when we found frozen rats in each others' freezers! ( snake & raptor food) Leaving New Orleans was tough but I also really missed the good feeling arising from solving daily human/animal problems. It will be a pleasure to share that hard-earned knowledge with new acquaintances! I know how tough it is to find capable caretakers for highly valued and diverse creatures - we ourselves have a large rescued menagerie ranging from pythons and huge lizards to stallions, vultures and hawks. Many times we wished we knew someone like us to care for them so we could travel with peace of mind!
We also have just become licensed as Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators so that we also may assist with solving human/wildlife issues - the proverbial "bats in the belfry" or skunk in the garage. "
